The Town of Easton has come a long way from its early days when cedar shakes and buckwheat were accepted as legal tender. The community remains today, though, as it has for over 100 years, primarily an agricultural community with numerous commercial farming operations within its borders.
Easton's officials are motivated toward progress through the use of public funds and programs. Easton has received, per capita, one of the largest amounts of public non-welfare funds in Maine over the years. Much of these funds go directly to improving the Town, including both public and privately owned resources.
